d Salt Lake in appropriating the od bachelors during leap year the thought suggested itself that now the bachelors will likely give them a wide berth and they will be left to maiden meditation free pernaps our maids will stand a good chance of captivating some of them Our girls are very timid and I am afraid some oi them will mourn lost opportunities But as a rule we love modest girls and we have some of the handsomest wittiest most goahead girls in the territory Thev are not old maids for ail are under thirty But our bachelors like most men do not and perhaps never will prize the blessings till some one deprives them of them For instance our county recorder has either not nerve enough to ask one girl to lighted his solitude or else is afraid of wounding the feelings of all the others so he fills his office with some of the most clever ones Among them Miss Palmer I a young woman thoroughly able to take care of herself and a husband too if necessary Miss Eufkin who can not only wield the pen but who can discourse dis-course most entrancing music that would turn any sensible mans head an heart too if he possessed one and jv Parry who manipulates the typew in a way to make ones head whirl N or is this the only office where our g > are enliving the solitude and earing their own living In the county clerk cifice is Miss Hattie Thatcher who help to while away the time and pu ducats in his pockets Then there are others of our girls who are independent and prefer earning their living to having it given them for our girls usually believe in equal rights Some are teaching clerking and following follow-ing all the useful avocations open to women Among our teachers are Misses Bessie and Marie Moorehead charming intelligent intelli-gent girls and most efficient teachers also Miss Bowen Miss Thain and a number of others Miss Hattie Carter our charming charm-ing milliner who can convince almost anyone that she has the latest styles and just the things you need Miss Marinda Torgeson our telegraph operator who has worked at the key since she was a little girl which by the way is not very long ago and who is one of fhe most efficient operators on the line Then we have our girls at home who lighten the mothers labors and make home happy by their happy charming ways Among them are Misses Alley Thatcher who combines with her amiacle disposition a thorough knowledge of housekeeping and who will never give any of our bachelor friends sour bread Miss Laura Farrell charming enough to reign qneen in any home just the one to prove a joy forever S and never make you regret your choice who will smile in your joy and weep in your misfortune Misses Hilda and Annie Eliason who are uot only thorough thor-ough housekeepers and good musicians but can successfully stock and carry on a flourishing dry goods establishment as well if not better than some of our bachelor bach-elor friends and make money out of it But time will not permit to mention a half of onr girls But if some forlorn old bachelors will give us a call we will be pleased to give him any other information infor-mation he may desire LOGAHTTE Provo A happy and complete surprise was
