Show THE OBITUARY RECORD William S Ladd < < PORTLAND Or Jan 6 William S Ladd a ponee banker and one of the heaviest capitalists on the Pacific coast died at his hone in this city today Death was caused by heart failure While being dressed this morning he fell lifeless on his bed About fifteen years ago deceased de-ceased suffered a paralytic stroke which deprived him of the use of his lower limbs and he has been unable to walk since Ladd was born at Holland Vt in the year 1826 He came to Portland in 1851 and engaged in mercantile business In I 1859 he together with Charles E Tilton organized the banking house of Lidd Tilton at the head of which he remained till his death He leaves a wife and five children Three sons William M Charles E and Wesley 11 two daughters daugh-ters Mrs H J Corbett who is now at Calorado Springs Col and Mrs Charles Pratt of Brooklyn N Y Ladd was one of the pillars and founders found-ers of the First Presbyterian church in this city and was a friend t public charities char-ities I was his custom to set aside one tenth of his net income for charitable purposes His estate is estimated to be worth 520000000 and it consists largely of state real estate in this city and Washington Jack Ashton Pugilist NEW YORK Jan 6Jack Ashton heavyweight pugilist for years traveling in combinations John L tons as Sullivans sparring partner died at 9 clock tonight of eresipelas at Bellevue hospital He wds born in Providence R 1 and was 30 years of age Bandmaster Cappa NEW YORK Jan 6Bandmaster Cap pa of Cappas famous Seventh Regiment band died here this morning |
