Show AMUSEMENTS ALIBABA LAST NIGHT There was another overflowing house at the theatre last night to witness the second sec-ond production of c Ali Baba The scenery and mechanical effects the splendid splen-did music the gorgeous costumes the electric displays the ballets the songs the choruses the fun of Eddie Foy and Henry Norman the Irish postboy All Babas donkey the panorama the beautiful beau-tiful cascade and tho magnificent closing transformation scene all received their due meed of praise and applause The exterior of the robbers cave in the second act is a beautiful bit of scene painting made effective by the skillful arrangement of lights and the fall of clearwater clear-water over the rocks in the rear portion of the stage The scenery throughout is resplendent re-splendent No such display of elegant tasteful and glittering costumes has ever been seen before in Salt Lake The beauty of the dresses lies in the pretty tints of colors selected in their manufacture and every set is so arranged as to make the blenaing with the scene and change of lime lights a perfect contrast The armor of the forty thieves is not only rich and expensive expen-sive but dazzling to the eye No two suits are alike except in fabric the colors of the mantles being of the latest fashionable fash-ionable hues and all together forming a kaleidoscope most pleasing to the eye The arrangement of the innumerable features in this grand spectacular play is almost perfect There is not one scene that drags One does not become tired of the music the dancing or the fun The vocal numbers are generally well sung the solos and concerted pieces being well rendered though it must be said that they are not as tuneful and catchy as in Hendersons former productions Without With-out a doubt the burden of AliBaba in an acting way lies with Edwin Foy who if anything is more comical than ever grotesque yet with a meaning full of hearty fun The imitation of Lottie Collins the original Tararaboomdeay is one of the funniest specialty acts that Foy has ever done The piece will be repeated tonight and at the matinee this afternoon WONDERLAND The usual day devoted to the almostex elusive right and privileges of children to monopolize this popular amusement house will be observed today according to custom cus-tom A great bill has been arranged and ready to be served for the youngsters benefit for the regular matinee price of 10 cents for all over the house The points of interest both upstairs and in the thea torium are unusually attractive and pleasing pleas-ing Uncle Danl is a big drawing card |
