Show MASONIC GRAND LODGE OFFICERS ELECTED AT THE GARDEN GAR-DEN CITY YESTERDAY Dr A Scott Chapman of Salt Lake Elected Grand Master A Damage Suit Against the Union Pacific Provo Jan 17The twentythird annual an-nual communication of the Masonic Grand lodge of Utah met yesterday in the Odd Fellows hal in this city There were quite a number from Salt Lake Ogden Park City and the surrounding sur-rounding country and a general good time was enjoyed The delegates met at 1130 a m in preliminary session and adjourned until 2 p m when the grand master delivered a address and the reports of the accounting officers were delivered de-livered At 7 oclock in the evening another important meeting was held and the days proceeding ended by the Weber Lodge No6 giving a banquet at the Roberts hotel Today the election of officers is being be-ing held and at this writing the following fol-lowing have been elected Grand master of the Grand Lodge of Utah territory Dr A S Chapman of Salt Lake Deputy grand master R L Scan nell of Salt Lake Grand warden A C Emerson of Ogden Junior grand warden A D Gash of Provo Grand treasurer J 3 o Scott of Salt Lake Grand secretary Chris Diehl of Salt Lake A parting banquet will be given at Fleiners cafe by Stony qiven 4 Among the prominent members of the fraternity present are Grand Master A B Emery of Park City A S Chapman Chap-man of Salt Lake A D Gash of Provo Fred Scrann of Ogden W T Dalby Daniel Dunne Max Lipman of Salt Lake W D Button of Park City and a great many others The visit of the Masons to the Garden City has been a pleasant one and they have been given a warm welcome wel-come Suit was commenced in the First district court today by Burt Johnson jr et al against Levi Openshaw to restain him from selling or otherwise collecting city taxes from certain farm property situated within Provo city limits but outside of the platted por lon i There ha been some trouble be fore this of a like nature but nothing definite was done but the question now bids fair to be settled Attorneys Kellogg and Corfman represent the plaintiffs in this case John 1 Chipman for his minor child Susan E Chipman filed suit today against the Union Pacific railway to recover 25000 damages alleged to be due by reason of an accident that occurred oc-curred to the said Susan E Chipman whereby she lost a foot I appears that the plaintiff is a child about 4 years old that in October last she was walking along the defendants railway track in American Fork and accidently caught her foot in the track and before she could extricate It a train operated by the defendant operate company com-pany came along ran over the child and cut off her foot Negligence is alleged al-leged to have existed on the part of the company and their employees Attorneys At-torneys King Houtz represent the plaintiff in this suit The case of the People vs Logan Paul the young man charged with having obtained money under false pretenses should have been decided yesterday but Justice Wedgewood on account of business continued it until tomorrow Jeweler D O Ward of this city has the sympathy of the community today in his bereavement Death entered his home last night and carried off his tomorrow only child The funeral will be held The Provo volunteer firemen give a ball tomorrow at Springville The Oxford society will hold their next party on the 23rd inst Christen present sons orchestra of Salt Lake will be |
