Show THE PiLTTMpKUS BALL Affair Happy anti Successful It Was a 11 TIle Guessing Contest The fifth annual ball of the plumbers and steam fitters under the auspices of local union No 19 was held last evening afcl O O F hall on Market street The affair was one of the most successful success-ful balls ever given in this city under the direction of a trade union There were about 150 couples on the floor and the ladies were attired in becoming and attractive at-tractive costumes many of which were exquisite and beautiful Those who may have had on previous occasion what seemed to them just cause to take exception to their plumbing bills conld not but have felt gratified at seeing that the well paid journeymen are a credit to the community and that intelligent labor has a canacity for enjoyment and the refining influences of the terpsIchorean terpsI-chorean art equal to the more pretentious I social eclat of the upper ten The well ordered programme of dances I was executed with a flourish and the young ladies and their gallants executed the numbers with a jest and happy humor of satisfaction A pleasant diversion was the awarding of a number of handsome prizes Miss Kate Foley won a pretty silver jewel casket for gussingtheweight of Mr John Woodburn president of the Plumbers his actual ers union at 231i pounds avoirdupois being 2311 > The next guessing feat was directed at the anatomy of Colonel Ed Kelley who endeared himself to the piumbera by paying pay-ing 520 for the first ticket auctioned and 5 for the second Mrs J W Farrell Miss Jennie Bonford and Mi < s Clara Pitt man each guessed 238 pounds which the colonel confessed to be exactly his size with his boots on In casting lots for the price Miss Bonford was the luck one Mr T A Kerns proved himself to be a useful man on the reception committee and made all the visitors feel at home |
