evening Thomas Jones Edward D Cox Mrs Lloyd Jacob Chatterton W W Bean W T Ayland E McPherson and William Will-iam Edmunds sent in petitions for the position of janitor Referred to the committee com-mittee on furniture and supplies The committee on school work recommended recom-mended the adoption of Johnsons United States History for use in the high school and that ten copies be ordered The report re-port was adopted The committee on sites and building reported that they had decided address a loiter to the Heady and Meyes Engineering Engineer-ing companys agent calling upon him to put a competent engineer in charge the heating and ventilating apparatus at the I Ljccohi school to test its efficiency The report was received and filed The committee on sites and buildings recommended that an appropriation of 512880 fao made to Heeseh Davis Co Jor laying pipe at the Bryant school 55180 for placing sewer pipe at the Lincoln Lin-coln school and 11270 for laying water service pipe with curb cock and street washers in connection with water mains at the Bryant school The report was adopted b THE SEVENTEENTH WARD SALE The reportof the committee on sites and buildings recommencing the sale of the seventeenth school site to the Seventeenth Ward Ecclesiastical association for the bum cf j5QO the board to retain the use of the lower rooms for school purposes until building is erected in that vicinity was adopted and the sale ordered made Young introduced a resolution that the superintendent buildings be authorized to arrange with the f ontractors of the Lowell school for platforms for teachers desks and incur the expense incidental thereto The resolution was adopted I Young offered a resolution that the committee on sites and buildings rl3 di recle J to contract for the lay ii > f a I proper soil pipe for carrying away the water from the roof of the Lowell school building Adopted I Pratt introduced a resolution that the superintendent of buildings be directed to suspend work on the heating and ventilating ven-tilating of the Jackson and Hamilton I schools until the success of the system be 1 demonstrated in the Lincoln and Bryant i schools Adopted I Euj bould moved in the matter of selling j the Seventeenth ward site as follows Thtt on payment of 2750 cash on account I ac-count of the purchase of the Seventeenth ward site by the Ecclesiastical association i oi the Seventeenth ward that a quitclaim quit-claim deed be executed by this board and i a note for 2750 be executed in favor of I the board without interest secured by mortgage on the property conveyed Or if preferred by said association that a I quit claim deed be executed by this board and placed in escrow until the whole sum of 5500 is paid The motion was 1 carried Raybould moved that the sum of 375 be appropriated to pay for the sewer connection con-nection with the Lincoln school building when the voucher now in the hands of the clerk be sworn to by the superintendent superintend-ent of sewers of the city Carried THE ANNEXED DISTRICT In the matter of the payment of the teachers in the old Sixtysixth district Dooly moved that they be paid in full to December 31 inclusive from date of examination exami-nation The motion was carried Baldwin moved that the committee on sites and buildings be authorized to lease two school sites in the annexed district and construct thereon movable buildings The motion was adopted Pratt moved that the committee on sites and buildings be authorized to obtain more suitable quarters for the superintendent superin-tendent of schools in the Hooper Eld redge building The motion was carried 1 THE QUESTION OF SALARIES The matter oi salaries was called up by Raybould inquiring as to why payment was not recommended upon his voucher of 432 by the finance committee He was informed that the majority of that committee 1 com-mittee did not think that members should present bills for services rendered I prior to last March when the act of the legislature providing for compensation of I members went into effect It appears that there is a diversity of opinion as to the matter and some of the members ae I presenting bills for the entire time that they have been members while others only ask for compensation since last I March Mr Duke moved that the appropriation in favor of Raybould for X132 and Alff for f441 be made
