Show STABBED IN THE BACK An Englishman Named Harris Runs Amuck with a Knife Ho Jabs Ephriam Madsen Twice in the Back and Slashes Another Man All Ocr a Cigarette The Lion saloon on East First South street was the scene of a furious and bloody fight last night about 7 oclock and the net result is that Ephriam Mad son has two ugly knife wounds in the I bacK and one across the scalp W H I Flower has a slash down the back and Alfred Harris is locked up charged with doing the cutting As near as can be ascertained from the incoherent and disconnected accounts given by the witnesses who all seem to have been too badly scared to know exactly ex-actly what took place the facts are as follows Two young men became engaged en-gaged in an altercation in front of the salon over a cigarette Harris who was standing by took a hand in the quarrel quar-rel and offered to fight one of the boys The latter went into the little wine room I in front of the saloon where Maden Flower and a party were drinking beer Madsen anda brotherinlaw who is a cripple went out and found Harris who commenced to abuse the ipple Mad sen interfered and he and the cripple backed into the saloon followed by Harris Har-ris The latter drew a knife tho cripple struck him with his cane Madsen threw a chair several others took a hand in the game and confusion reigned supreme At this juncture Flower i rushed in and was met at the door by a flying chair full in the face As he turned to retreat Harris Har-ris made a lunge at him with his knife which slit the back of his clothing for about three feet but merely scratched the skin Madsen was also getting out by this time and when he had reached the sidewalk Harris came up behind him stabbed him twice in the back and slashed him across the top of the head layingthe scalp open for about three inches Madsen was taken Into Sykes drug store where Dr Beatty dressed his wounds He was then taken home in a cab While his injuries were very painful Dr Beattie I stated they were not of a serious character charac-ter Harris was caught by two officers running I I run-ning down State street taken to the city hall and locked up He stated that he of was an Englishman thirtyone years age and a boiler maker No weapon was found on his person except a pocket knife Shortly after Harris was locked up Madsens fat erinlaw appeared at the police station with a big gun in his pocket 1 only wish the scoundrel was out here he exclaimed Id give him all he wants He ought to die |
