Collision on the Great Western of England LONDON Nov nA collision occurred today on the Great Western railway at Norton Fitzwarren station near Taunton between a freight and special train from L Plymouth conveying passengers from the I steamer Norham Caste just arrived at Plymouth from the Cape of Good Hope Ten were killed and eignt injured The collision occurred at 2 oclock this morning and was caused by the negligence of the signal man Tho freight train had L been switched to the up line to allow the down night mail train to pass which it did L safely The night was rainy and dark aid L the signal man forgot the freight standing on the up track and the up bound special L train which consisted of four carriages I containing fifty passengers rushed past the station at fifty miles an hour and dashed into the dahed freight The first car of frst the eeial vas demolished The demolshed wreck i took tire Six passengers were burned to death The wreckage was piled to a height of eighty feet Some of the passengers were imprisoned in the cars four hours A negro killed was tho son of a missionary in South Africa and America was on his way to
