Show 92nd Year ' ' , x- EFFIE TURNER APPLE Mrs. Effie Kilfoyle Turner Apple was honored by members of the Helen Mar Miller Camp at the Daughter of Utah Pioneers meeting for her 92nd birthday. THE STORY of her life was read by Captain Irene B. 01-sen. 01-sen. The members sang happy birthday accompanied by Gary Johnson on his accordion. ac-cordion. Effie was presented a pin for 51 years as a member of DUP and serving as captain for one year. ON Wednesday at her home, 12 North 200 East, Farmington she greeted members of her family, neighbors and friends from 1-9 p.m. on her birthday. She was born March 1, 1886 to James and Sarah Jane Nate Kilfoyle in Kaysville. SHE WAS educated in Kaysville and resided there until her marriage to Jesse Wm. Turner. Dec. 14, 1904. Mr. Turner died 11 years later, Feb. 6, 1916 leaving her with four small children. Effie has three sons and one daughter, Lawrence William Turner, Sioux City, Iowa; James Leslie Turner, and Mrs. G. Lloyd (Ruth) Hess, both of Farmington and Rex K. Turner, Salt Lake City. SHE ALSO has 17 grandchildren, 46 greatgrandchildren great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; a . sister, Mrs. Leo B. (Verna) Hill and brother, Reuben Kilfoyle, Kil-foyle, both of Kaysville. She has been a faithful church worker. Spent six years as Relief Society president, many years as work director and Relief Society teacher, eight years stake board work director. SHE WAS Primary president three different times. Taught Sunday School, religion class and Primary. Worked two years on the MIA recreational committee and was on the stake board in MIA. Effie worked 17 years with county extension and home demonstration agent, organizing or-ganizing 65 4-H groups in sewing and cooking. Chairman Chair-man of county fair board 12 years and seven years as chairman of county welfare board. HELPED organize the school lunch program. She was appointed county sewing supervisor to organize classes to furnish work for women who needed work. Chairman of the food at ward reunions. In 1960 under Effie's direction direc-tion with the help of the Relief Society work directors an exhibit of handiwork of 14 wards was held at the general board office in Salt Lake City. JAN. M, 1942 Effie married J.M. Apple and moved to Van Nuys, Calif. He died of a heart attack Dec. 17, 1944. Effie lives at her home in Farmington doing her own housework and taking care of many house plants she received from friends. |
