Show a Mils By DAVE WIGHAM Bountiful council members unanimously adopted a new city ordinance prohibiting any burning above the 5250 foot level. The vote came at the councils weekly meeting on Wednesday night. MAIN CONCERN of the council was the fire hazard being created in the Maple Hills development area. It was reported that the developers are brushing away the shrubs and brush in the area to make room for streets. Instead of bringing the brush down to the dump they are just piling it up causing the fire danger. In this case the city also passed a resolution giving the Maple Hills people until May 15 to bring the debris down by truck or the city will take action. ac-tion. THE NEW ordinance, which goes into effect immediately on publication today, makes it unlawful to start a fire or to have open or agricultural burning above the 5250 foot elevation. Below that level a permit must be issued through the Bountiful Fire Department. Penalty for violation of this ordinance is a misdemeanor. THE COUNCIL was informed in-formed that some developers want to build a small shopping shop-ping mall on the Lund property which is across the street from city hall. The problem there is that the existing post office would be in the way so the city is toying with the idea of building build-ing another post office and then leasing the building to . the post office. To do this they would sell or issue industrial bonds. THIS MATTER really wasn't discussed at length due to the fact that Lunds haven't sold any of the property as of yet. But the developers want to get the councils reaction to the idea. The council didn't take a stand one way or the other noting they wanted more information. |
