Show ' f . ' NEW BISHOPRIC By MARY LAND EN Moving into a new meetinghouse meet-inghouse building with a new bishopric on New Year's Eve was Val Verda Stake's Fifth Ward. IT BECAME necessary to release Terry Smoot, who was bishop for three and one-half one-half years, because of his moving out of the ward with his wife, Marcia, and five children, Troy, Tasha, Siri, Shay and Ashley. The family has been renting the Norm Ensign home at 172 West 3100 South on Val Verda Road while awaiting the completion comple-tion of their new home up North Canyon in the 10th Ward. Bishop Smoot has continued to serve as Fifth Ward bishop for a couple of months since their move, until the sustaining of the new bishopric. He has recently joined his father in business. Members of the new bishopric in the Val Verda 5th Ward include 1 to r, Arlo Anderson, An-derson, 1st counselor; Bishop Stephen Blaser, and Del Rowe, 2nd counselor. Bishop Smoot's counselors have been Clark Jenkins, who lives with his wife Kristy and children at 2778 So. Edgehill; and Leo Samuelson, who lives with his wife Charlene and their children next door at 2788 Edgehill. THE NEW Val Verda Fifth Ward Bishop is Steve Blaser, a relative newcomer to Val Verda. Steve and his wife Earleen, with their children Burke, 7, Brittany, 5, and Brandon, 3, moved into their home at 2725 So. 450 East a year ago just shortly before the birth of their youngest son Brady. Steve and Earlene are both natives of Logan. They are an active, busy couple. Steve owns Carefree Mobile Homes, and is a Certified Cer-tified Public Accountant. Earlene has been the coach of the Woods Cross High Rifle Drill Team (not associated as-sociated with the ROTC program). She will be travelling with the drill team and the band to Edmonton, Canada this summer tor the parade and field competitions there. THE FAMILY has done quite a bit of traveling with Steve's business,- including a cruise to the Bahamas, Haiti and Jamaica after Thanksgiving; Thanks-giving; and a project trip this spring to Brazil. His business has also taken them to Hawaii several times, Mexico, Central America, Canada, etc. BISHOP B LASER'S first counselor is Arlo Anderson, controller of a steel company in Salt Lake City. Arlo and Liz Anderson live at 2549 South 550 East with their six children Cammie, Shelley, Scott, Spencer, Diana and the new baby Megan. Arlo and Liz are best known in the area for their musical talents. Liz has been Ward . Choir director. Both sang in the "Messiah" this year, and Arlo has been much appreciated for his fine work with the stake productions of the "Messiah" and "Fiddler On The Roof," etc tor his sets, scenery and staging. SECOND counselor is another talented musician, Del Rowe. Del, with Diane and their three daughters Robin, Holly and Kyndel reside at 620 Pheasant Way. Del, an attorney practicing in Salt Lake City, has been on the stake high council for a number of years, and most recently has been head of the ward activities committee. Diane has been ward Relief Society president. Del has been quite active also in stake musical events; singing tenor in the ward choir and in the "Messiah." He also participated in "Fiddler on The Roof" last year and plays the trumpet in a small dance combo. |
