The recipe is one used in Holland by Marion's mother and grandmother grand-mother and has been in continued con-tinued usage since Marion's parents came to this country where she was born. - TO MAKE a thick nutritious nutri-tious soup with lots of flavor, it is necessary to buy a soup bone which must be simmered sim-mered in water for hours, making a good beefy stock. Then vegetables are added and small ground beef balls are also added for additional iiavor and nutrition. That aroma of homemade soup is winderful when coming home - ' "ii i i i from a busy day and especially on a cold wintry day. VEGETABLE SOUP 1 soup bone, about 2 lb. About 4 quarts water 2 tsp. salt 2 large onions, chopped fine 4 large carrots, chopped fine 4 ribs of celery, use leaves, chopped 1 qt. tomatoes 1 lb. ground beef '4 tsp. nutmeg tsp. salt 2 to 5 coils vermicelli 2 TB parsley, chopped PUT SOUP bone and water into a large kettle, cover and Homemade soup is especially popular on a cold wintry day. Marion Zippro spends hours of simmering to blend the flavors of vegetables and meat, making a great meal at the end of the day. This flavorful hearty soup is a nutritious satisfying meal. simmer about 2 hours with salt. Add onions, carrots and celery with chopped leaves and tomatoes. Mix the ground beef with nutmeg and salt and roll into small balls, adding to the soup. Cook at least one half hour or longer and add the vermicelli ver-micelli and parsley, using as much vermicelli as desired or to make as thick a soup as you like. Continue to simmer until the vermicelli is tender and serve. Crackers or French bread and some cheese would make a good filling meal, warm and flavorful. This amount of soup serves 10 to 12. THERE ARE eight children in the family, five married and three still at home. There are nine grandchildien. John is a native of Holland and is presently Davis County director direc-tor of Emergency Services. The family lives at 317 East 700 South in Farmington. The Zippros are expert builders of doll houses. John builds the houses of wood, about four feet high and four feet wide. Some of these houses have a stairway with bedrooms and bath upstairs. There are several rooms on the lower floor. THERE IS also carpeting, linoleum in the kitchen and bath and furniture madeby Marion. She loves to make curtains, drapes, bedding for the handmade beds and other furniture. This is a great gift for any little girl. The couple has made about 16 of these elegant doll houses during the past few years. This would be a great hobby for people who are talented in building and who have tools about which are not used much any more, especially after retirement. For the ladies who enjoy stitching, this would be delightful to make small furnishings and decorations for a doll house for any little girl, kj |
