Mr. Schweitzer's signed statement U given below. Regarding tho statement in tho Herald-Republican of December 14 that Lopez waa being assisted bv a certain division of the foreign olo-mont olo-mont of Bingham bccauHo of their animosity to me, such Information waa not furnished tho reporter by Pinkerton detectives, but originated In hl own fevered Imagination. That I am cordially hated by every outlaw and blackleg In this camp, aa well ns one reporter, is a source of gratification and pride to me, but I there 1h about as much foundation for the statement that it Is tho muse of this element supporting Lopez as " there has ben for numerous of r "phony statements he has recent!, made regarding Incident happening here. (Signed) THEA. SCHWEITZER. When asked about tho report that there were pinkerton detectives among the miners In the Andy tunnel during the lust few days. Mr. Schweitzer said: "There ore no PInkertons among those men. I know the Pinkerton men in camp. It is rjdlculoun, as is the report that Sam Rogers, the shift boas, was guilty of helping Lopez. I know Rogers very well, nnd I know he Is not that kind of a man lie went to Salt Lake and has been making mak-ing no attenrpt to conceal his whereabouts." |
