Show Conserve Water .... County Water Problems Are Aired At Meeting The annual meeting of the Duchesne County Water Users' Association was held this week at the Duchesne county courthouse. court-house. Officials of the association attending at-tending the convention were Horace Allred, president. Roosevelt; Roos-evelt; Hale Holgate, first vice president, Arcadia; Emil Muns, second vice president, Duchesne. T. W. Jensen, secretary-manager of the Utah Water Users Association Asso-ciation and B. O. Colton. Roosevelt, Roose-velt, water commissioner and a director on the State Water and Power board, represented the state associations. Chief topic of the meeting was "Water Conservation for Duchesne Du-chesne county." Mr. Jensen, as chief spokesman of the meeting outlined to those present what the state association attempts to do for the benefit of Duchesne county. In voicing this outline, Mr. Jensen suggested to the officials of-ficials of the water associations within Duchesne county that there was much . need for development de-velopment of projects such as enlarging and lining canals, together to-gether with construction of permanent diversion dams. He also urged that the county get back of and support the Basin Development under the Central Utah & River Storage Project. In reporting the accomplishments accomplish-ments of the water conserva- tion carried out within the State . of Utah during1 the last four years, Mr. Jensen stated that the Utah Water and Power Board has completed 26 projects which represents the putting to use 3,600 acre feet of water that heretofore has been lost. The Farm Home Administration under the Water Facilities Division Di-vision has completed some 30-odd 30-odd projects and has put to use another 3600-4000 acre feet of water, he continued. He reported that activity throughout various county water organizations was on a stepped-up stepped-up scale; and that there are ' some 280 active water users associations as-sociations within the state. Mr. Jensen recommended that more activity be attempted for conservation of water in Duchesne Du-chesne county among the water users. In keeping with this recommendation, recom-mendation, officials have announced an-nounced that a special meeting of the Duchesne County Water Users will be called in the near future to be held at Tabiona. At this special meeting, problems prob-lems pertaining to water rights and priorities of the Duchesne River Water System will be discussed dis-cussed for the purpose of protecting pro-tecting such water rights and water priorities in the Uintah Basin. Election of officers for the county association will also be on the agenda for this meeting. meet-ing. Besides the officers named in the introduction of this article other officials of the Duchesne County Water Users Association are: Floyd Case, Mt. Emmons, director; Howard Roberts, My-ton, My-ton, director; James H. Summers Sum-mers and Edwin Carman, of Du- chesne, directors representing individual in-dividual water users who are not members of water or ditch companies; and Louis A. Jensen, secretary-treasurer, Roosevelt. Announcement of the annual meeting of the Utah Water Users Us-ers Association was made to the group attending the Duchesne meeting. Mr. Jensen said this convention would be held in the Governor's Room of the State Capitol on Oct. 3. Speakers at this meeting will be men who are considered top leaders in water conservation and its problems, prob-lems, according to Mr. Jensen. Theme of the convention is "Utah's Water Conservation Problems." Those who are interested in-terested in water conservation of their own area or that within the state are invited to attend, Mr. Jensen concluded. |
