Show HOLD OFFICERS FOR Ban DEATH SPRINGFIELD, Neb , March 29. Tho coroners Jury in the Inquest over the body of Roy 3lunt shortly after midnight returned a verdict recommending recom-mending that Chiof of Police Brlggs of South Omaha, his special deputy, John C. Trouton and John C Byers, of Lincoln, bo held to the district court for the killing of Blunt and that , Sheriff Grant Chaso of Sarpy county bo censured for not preventing tho shooting which resulted in Blunt's death Tho verdict sa.vs: "Roy Blunt came to his death on the lfith day of March, 1912, trom tho effects of a gjinshot wound Inflicted by a riflo ball, fired from a ntle held In the hands of Chief of Police John Brlggs of South Omaha "We also find that Sheriff Byors of Lancastor county and John 0." Trouton Trou-ton of South Omaha were accessories and recommend that they bo held to tho district courL "Wo further find, according to the evidence adduced at tho Inquest, that Sheriff Grant Chaso failed to exorclso duo authority in restraining the members mem-bers of the posae from-flrlng Into tho wagon occupied b- the convicts and j Roy Blynt and therefore is deserving I of great censure." The jury remained out six hours and for most of that time appeared to be In a hopeless deadlock. Coroner Armstrong caused to bo read to the crowd at the Inquest a letter from Governor Aldnch In which the latter cautioned the officers of the Inquest that the piocecdlngs should be conducted In an Impartial spirit and to remember the posse of officers were Jn pursuit of desporato men; that thebe officers took their lives In I their hands and that what may havo IH seemed to be unnecessary taking of M an innocent life should bo considered 1 an unfortunate accident. M Chief of Police Brlggs and Sheriff Grant Chase of Sarpy county were the H most important witnesses. Brlggs had fl been threatened with violence for his M part in the battle. Brlggs admitted S that once while tho battle was on he M gave no more consideration to the M life of young Blunt than to his own. S "I just decided that we had to fight H It out," the chief said. "I made up hH my mind to fight until Ihey killed mo yH or the convicts were dead or cap- jM tured.
