Show Owing to the reports of distress in India, the famine code has been applied to a section of 5,000 square miles with a population of 1,500,000 people. This does not include the wheat belt. Wood glucose bread is nsed in Germany Ger-many as feed for cattle. The cellulose is transformed into grape sugar, and added to it is about 40 per cent of meal of wheat, oats or rye. Prince Edward Island grows very good wheat and probably better oats than most part of the dominion. The island is also noted for its large crops of excellent potatoes. The New Sonth Wales government has prohibited the importation of any stock from California till January 15, 1893, owing to the existance of glanders on the Pacific coast. To enable the continuance of the Queensland sugar industry it has been found imperative that cheap Polynesian Polyne-sian labor be introduced from the south sea islands. . |
