Show WUICK OF THE COLIMA tnrrestig tors May Themselves Be Investigated San Francisco June 17The federal investigation Into the circumstances which led to the foundering of the Pacific Mail steamer Colima off Man zanillo Mexico on May 26 was resumed re-sumed this afternoon Todays proceedings pro-ceedings were unimportant S W Hawkhurst superintendent of the Pacific Pa-cific Mail dock testified that in 1887 the Colima was thoroughly overhauled and made nearly as good as new Before Be-fore she wont on her last voyage 100 tons of rock were put an the after hold The Colima carried the Te Colma carred neces sary canvass and a drag Captain Taylor made no objection to taking the Colima to sea on the scc that she was top heavy He testified that there was about forty tons of lumber on the upper deck Louis Zingare the manofwarsman who was saved from the wreck by the San Juan was recalled He said the Colima would probably have been saved had she had a drag out The lumber on her deck he said was piled four feet ten inches high I is now said that the United States inspectors of hulls and boilers who have been conducting the Colima investigation will themselves be subject to a government gov-ernment inquiry as to their neglect in departure inspecting the Colima before her |
