Show I CATTLE 1 THE UNION YARDS Over Seven Thousand Head Were Handled Last Week During the past week the Union stock yards handled something over 7000 head of cattle being shipped to various parts of the east and north from the southern part of the territory from and there are some more heavy shipments ship-ments coming this week The run commenced again in earnest yesterday I yester-day when the Union Pacific handled on its southern line forty carloads of steers twenty of which came from Milford consigned to northern points and the remainder were loaded at Oasis and consigned to Wasatch Utah from which station the cattle are to be driven down onto the Bear river These cattle are coming from all parts of the southern and south central portions of the territory the greater majority from the former Several parties are shipping from Milford Mil-ford and also the other stations on the southern line but Mr Saunders is doing do-ing the major portion of the business this spring He has been at Milford sprng personally for over a week now Kome good shipments are also being made from down on the Sanpete Valley branch of the Rio Grande Western and out of the northern part of the territory movements of beef cattle are not infrequent although the supply is running rather light on account of the drain which has been on for tfome time past This beef has been made in Cache county by eastern feeders who recognized the opportunity and in consequence have made money by feeding Utah steers on Utah hay The cattle are commanding high prices on the eastern markets At an early hour yesterday morning a heavy shipment of cattle was made 4 from the Union stock yards in this II city to Soda Springs There were something over 600 head of stock in I j the consignment and the owner was P J Qualey he having purchased I from Mr Saunders and loaded at Oasis Sunday at the yards was devoted de-voted to branding the cattle with Mr I Qualeys brand and upon the arrival of the shipment at Soda last evening the bunch was turned out on grass Two carloads of cows were received at the yards yesterday for sale and Knight and company took one of them |
