Show l0 COMPROMISE Stories About the Taylor Case Unfounded Un-founded Deadwood S D June 17State Treasurer Phillips received advice today to-day that W W Taylor extreasurer of South Dakota would be surrendered surrender-ed to the authorities at Pierre on Tuesday In an interview with Governor Gov-ernor Sheldon who is now in Deadwood Dead-wood and Treasurer Phillips the Associated Press representative was informed by both gentlemen that the stories so freely published in eastern papers within the last few days to the effect that a compromise had been effected with the defaulter and his bondsmen which practically allows Taylor to go free and to retajn the greater part of his stealings is absolutely abso-lutely without foundation Taylor will be compelled to make restoration in full and no action on his part or the part of his bondsmen to this end will mitigate the degree of his crime or lessen his punishment The governor gov-ernor and Treasurer Phillips are both authority for the statement that the state will not loose a cent that property of sufficient value to more than cover Taylors defalcation has been turned over to the state by Taylor and his bondsmen bonds-men and that notwithstanding this the case against him will be pushed with as much severity as though it had been undertaken against a less prominent criminal Misuse of Public Funds Wabash Ind June 17 Judson K Lukens Elias P Sailors and James D Starbuck commissioners of Wabash county were arrested tjiis afternoon Nineteen indictments were found against the three for the misuse of public funds and making illegal allow publc ances nine of the indictments being for felonies and ten for misdemeanors misdemean-ors |
