Show FREIGHT HATES SLASHED Action TaUcn By the Chesapejjic and Ohio New York June 17 Freight rates to Chicago and the west have been slashed by the Chesapeake Ohio and trouble is pending Furthermore the line has withdrawn its proposal to enter the trunk line association Some weeks ago the Chesapeake Ohio sent a letter to Chairman Roberts Rob-erts of the board of presidents expressing ex-pressing its willingness to enter the association I was stipulated however how-ever that all cheap freight rates must be abolished and that the strict tariff be adhered to I rates were not restored by June 10 then the Chesapeake Ohio would refuse to join and would issue its own tariff on June 13 Accordingly the Chesapeake Ohio freight department better known as the Kanawha Dispatch filed a copy of a new tariff with the Interstate commerce commission Freights have been cut by them nearly fifty per cent The old rate for first class freight from New York to Chi freIht cass cago is scaled down from 65 cents to I 35 Second class is cut from 60 cents to 30 and third class from 55 to 25 cents The other classes of freight are proportionately slashed A meeting of the Trunk line people has ben called for June 30 to take the matter up |
