Show Pastor Tells Own Story Regarding Louis Battle (Editor's Note: In the following story, Bob Pastor, former New York university journalism student, answers in his own words the cry that he will be knocked out by Joe Louis.) By BOB PASTOR Written especially for International News Service NEW YORK, Jan. 28 Ever ince I signed to fight Joe Louis in Madison Square Garden tomorrow night, I have been reading read-ing about what he is coine to do to me that he will knock me nut' I want to answer that with the' flat assertion that, in my opinion, Louis hasn't knocked out anybody because It hasn't been necessary. Most of his opponents were knocked out by fear. C'ounta on Right Furthermore, the first good fighter fight-er he met simply reversed that situation by landing the first hard punch. Max Schmeling was game, tood up and fought, and you know the result. I am absolutely certain that I will wipe away any remaining belief be-lief that Louis Is a superman. A good, stiff right hand to the chin will do it. Statements to the effect that he had an off-night against Schmeling. or was overconfident, or wasn't permitted per-mitted to use enough bandage on his hands are empty alibis, and I expect to prove it However,, I'm not giving or asking any edge and for that reason I am going to insist before the New York State athletic commission ' that rules governing the amount of bandage band-age and tape a fighter may use be enforced. Louis, I understand, will ask that the rules be waived. I ask that they be enforced no more and no less. I want to mention this fact, too: That I have begged for this fight for months, because I am confident I can beat Louis. My confidence ia based on the belief that I have the boxing style that will do it. along with the necessary punch and ability to take it. Also, I have never been afraid of any man, including in-cluding Louis. Briefly, I know that I ran and will win. I expect to do It by a knockout. |
