Show HOSPITAL UNDER FLU QUARANTINE The Salt Lake general hospital waa ordered quarantined Thursday aa preparations went forward for consolidation with the county ln-flrmary ln-flrmary and reorganization of the hospital staff. The quarantine, effective against all visitors "except In gravest emergency," emer-gency," was ordered by County Commissioner W. H. Anderson and Dr. R. J. Alexander, superintendent, as a result of an influenza epidemic epi-demic which was reported to have stricken "over one-third" of the hospital hos-pital personnel. "We found that patients about to be discharged are being reinfected reinfect-ed with influenza, apparently from contact with visitors," Dr. Alexander Alexan-der explained from a sick bed, "so wa deemed it necessary to bar all vlsitors." The hospital head himself la suffering suf-fering a mild attack of the "flu." He said over one-third of the hospital personnel, including eight nurses, have contracted influenza. Visitors will be admitted only where patients are In critical condition "or where the patient's condition justifies visitors , the doctor said. Meanwhile, committees of the Salt Lake County-Medlosl eoolety were shaping up details of a plan approved Wednesday at a meeting with Commissioner Anderson, which provides for complete reorganization reorganiza-tion of the staff personnel and settlement set-tlement of past differences over treatment of paying patients. |
