Show 143 Join Second University Of Scouting Session .Registration at the 1956 University Uni-versity of Scouting soared to an unexpected 148 at the close1 of I the second session of the six-y six-y week training course for scout leaders and parents, stated James E. Bacon, 1956 University of Scouting chairman. Climbing sharply from a slow start Nov. 1 at the opening session ses-sion attended by only 84 persons, last Thursday's sessions saw 127 participating in the six courses being offered. , Third session will be conducted tonight (Thursday) at the Alta-mont Alta-mont High School at 7:30 p.m. No session is planned for Thanksgiving Thanks-giving week; however, three more sessions will be held after the Thanksgiving wek on Nov. 29, Dec. 6 and 13. Leading the group of registrants were many of the leading church and community leaders from the three scout districts participating. Vice-President Paul Murphy from the Utah National Parks Council top officers was on hand at the second session to emphasize the need for Universities of Scouting. Stake Officials Register President William N. Brother-son, Brother-son, President U. B. Winkler and President Leon Burton of the Moon Lake LDS Stake Presidency t are registered for the Scouting University, together with A, Hale Holgate, President of the Duchesne LDS Stake, and Paul Murphy of the Roosevelt LDS Stake Presidency. Presi-dency. Other key community leaders attending the 1956 Altamont University Uni-versity of Scouting include Jesse A. Palm, U. S. Forest Ranger at Altonah, and Floyd Noel, U. S. Forest Ranger at Duchesne. LDS bishops registered for the leadership training through University Uni-versity of Scouting are Ronald L. Beardall. of Ballard; James E. Lar-.sen, Lar-.sen, Montwel; Mons Johansen of Boneta;. Earl Murray, Bluebell; Garn L. Gilbert, Arcadia; J. Arthur Timothy, Altonah; and Willard B. Mecham of Mt. Emmons. Cub scout course shows 30 registered; re-gistered; Guide patrol, 25; Boy Scouting, 31; Exploring, 30; Commissioner, Com-missioner, 10 and district committee, com-mittee, 22. Those who attend five of the six sesions, or four of the six and complete a written make-up will be eligible for a graduation certificate. certi-ficate. Graduation will be held on the closing night, Dec. 13. Representatives from the following follow-ing institutions which sponsor scouting units are registered for the University of Scouting: Bluebell, Blue-bell, Mt. Emmons, Talmage Bon eta, Altonah, Tabiona, Hanna, Arcadia, Duchesne, the Roosevelt Ward, RooseveLt 2nd Ward, Roosevelt Roose-velt 3rd Ward, Roosevelt 4th Ward, Ballard, Myton, Ioka, Montwel Mont-wel and Neola. Institutions in the Duchesne, Moon Lake and Roosevelt Scout Districts which sponsor Scouting units and have not sent representatives represent-atives to the University of Scouting Scout-ing are Mt. Home, Upalco, Bridge- land, Whiterocks LDS Ward, Whiterocks Episcopal Church, Ava-lon, Ava-lon, Kiwanis Club of Roosevelt and American Legion Post 64 in Roosevelt. A University of Scouting is one of the services of our local Scout Council and the one at Altamont as well as one at Vernal is being co-ordinated by our Field Scout Executive, Rulon Dean Skinner, concluded Mr. Bacon. |
