Show ROOSEVELT HIGH SCHOOL Last week we met and defeated defeat-ed Altamont high. We hope to do as well when we meet Tab-iona Tab-iona here this Friday. The spurs are working on a march and are to be commended commend-ed pn their success. Their blue and gpld uniforms are the best ever, The Seminary is sponsoring a dance Friday. They are selling tickets in advance, Also, they have planned an excellent assembly. as-sembly. As we look forward on the calendar, we find that we have two Graham-Lyceum attractions soon. The yearbook staff has been especially busy this week taking1 tak-ing1 group pictures of the clubs and organizations. Wednesday night the school play, "Summer Rash," was presented. pre-sented. Matinee performances were given Wednesday and Thursday. ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Last Monday the report cards went home for the second time. Parents are invited and urged to come into school at any time and talk over the progress of their children with the teachers. The fourth grade has been studying Utah and her resources. resourc-es. Fifty-five years ago on Jan. 4, 1896, Utah obtained statehood, state-hood, after making the attempt for forty-seven years. The following is an original poem written by Joyce Wills, age 9, . Utah ' Utah, the land of the free! Oh, what a wonderful place to be. The hills are covered with fragrant fra-grant flowers. And they are watered by refreshing re-freshing showers. The mountains lift their lofty peaks Far above the rushing creeks. And pine trees swaying to and fro Help to melt the drifted snow. Far below in the valley green Children are swimming in the stream. And busy farmers are tilling the sod. All this and more was created by God. |
