Show Panthers Lose Semi-Finals The Park City Panthers played another extremely physical game against the Pioneer Cavalry in the semi-finals of the Utah Junior Association knockout tournament and came out on the short end of a 4-0 count. The game ended in almost total darkness on Thursday afternoon at Bell View Elementary School in Sandy, giving rise to innumerable unseen and uncalled penalties. Goalie Alex Holmsen, who played a spectacular game for the Panthers, actually had the ball knocked out of his hands with a fist and was shouldered aside as the audacious Pioneer miscreant kicked the loose ball in. Center-forward Steve Toly was at half-speed with a sprained ankle but nevertheless managed the only shots on goal for the Panthers. The Pioneers then took their licks from the Germania Eagles in the championship game at Fairmont Fair-mont Park on Saturday, losing 2-0. And so the losing semi-finalists, the Panthers and Wasatch, . shared third place. To celebrate the heriocs of the Panthers, Astros, and High Rollers, there will be a soccer dinner with awards and a Pele movie (courtesy of Pepsi-Cola of Utah) on Friday evening, December Decem-ber 9 at the Memorial Building. |
