Show era Patrol S era l wi1 Changes Hats The Utah Highway Patrol, Wednesday, November 16th, announced a change of uniform (the trooper campaign hat). Beginning November 16th, the patrolmen throughout the state will begin wearing a brown "smokey bear hat". Prior to 1955, the Highway Patrol uniform included a beige campaign hat in summer months along with a garrison cap in winter months. This was later changed to wearing of the garrison cap full time in the fall of 1955. Then in 1974, the administration adminis-tration of the patrol again went back to "smokey bear" campaign hat. But because of the beige color of the hat, it was soon found that the durability was poor and cleaning and blocking were impossible. So this year, with the assistance assist-ance of the Utah Highway Patrol Association, a survey was conducted conduc-ted and a new hat adopted. This new hat being brown in color will hopefully prove to be more durable and yet still enhance the state trooper image. |
