Show WILL TAKE FLEET. According to an announcement from London, which may or may not be true, the allied war council will insist upon the surrender of the German fleet as one of the terms of armistice. In the opinion of great numbers of persons this should be done. In the first place it would be dangerous to allow the Germans Ger-mans to possess warships if the empire is to be left with the least bit of power. In the second place if an era of peace is to follow the war the Germans will not need a fleet and, finally; they cannot afford such a luxury while they are paying enormously high taxes incident in-cident to an unsuccessful war. There is no intention upon the part of the allies to annihilate Germany, but it is the evident purpose to place the empire in such position that it will not be able to disturb the peace for a long time to come. So if the fleet is divided among the nations engaged in the war againbt the central powers no one need be surprised. sur-prised. The militarists played their game for all that it was worth and now that they are asking for peace let them give up all weapons of offense and work out their own salvation without being tempted to take that which does not belong to them. |
