Show COMMENTS ; 1 left our simp by the back j door Friday and went around I to Harding Avenue and edged . up to Mam Srteel to wlicie 1 could see the dignilanes' stand for the dedication ol I-1.) I-1.) through and around Cedar City. As 1 got then 1 lloli"ed Covernor Calvin Hampton , leave the Cedar High band on the east side of the street and start across toward those on the west side. As he came across the street he dolfed his hat and I took off back to the shop. 1 rememberd il was an election year, and that with the Deniccials always broke, 1 thought i he Governor was ing to "pass the hat." , In his (losing comment in -his column one day last week, Dan Valentine told where Ihe Governor had been so far this year, and included Cedar City. AMI Mr. Valentine, as of Friday Fri-day he has been there again. i The program passed out at the above dedication services Friday, also listed projects set ', for tlie year June .'in, 1970 In July 1 1971.. Included in this 1 construction program to be '. undertaken in that fiscal year. was listed the 1-13 stretch of road iioni Summit to Parago- ! nah; the Parowan connection with that road on the north end of Main Street, as Federal Projects. '' i liut the one which made us ;' the happiest was a State Funded Project for resurfacing a portion of the Parowan Can- ' yon road. This project would resurface G.7 miles of the road between Parowan and the Ski I Resort, with the project to J cost $100,000. I don't know of a project that is needed more than this one, and I hope it j goes this fall. j j And while we're talking j about highways. We have bee n v i told by people who have ei- ' 1 ther visited or have relatives j in Wyoming, that Pa rowan's i Main Street is listed as the roughest stretch or road in j the whole western area by I motorists r.,id truck drivers j up there. Now it is our im- : prossion that Pa rowan's main ! street is a part of Highway 91; that its condition is not the fault of Parewan City, but of 1 the stale Highway Depart- ' ; ment, and is directly under j the jurisdiction of the Region Five roa(( office in Cedar City. But whoever is in charge of it " ; they should be ashamed o; it ) and a project should be un- ' dertaken to resurface it. : We can appreciate the ;'!- . ;; ings of George Clinch in his -s i letter to Ihe editor las! week, of having to live nexl to an almost abandoned lot. The reason we sympathize with him is that we have a simi- , lar problem on two sides of i . us, one on the east and one , ; on the south. Like George wo wish there was something wo i could do about it. 1 i i I was sorry to read in the J : Sunday Tribune where Dan .1 : Valentine was ill and that his columns would not appear f 5 for some time. I have read his I columns for many years and enjoyed it much of the time. J Now I hope that nothing hap- I f pens to Ann Landers, Andy I ( Capp, Mary Worth and Half Hitch until Dan is back on f ! the ball again. ! J |
