("JW S'4 lP :!lil't llllilhifiiljiliii Derrill Christian Ronnow, Cedar City attorney, has announced an-nounced his candidacy for the office of Judge of the Fifth Judicial District comprising Juab, Millard, Beaver, Washington Wash-ington and Iron counties. Konnow has been a member of the Utah Bar for 19 years, having practiced some 15 years in Salt Lake City, during dur-ing which lime he served a term as District Attorney of the Third Judicial District. The remaining four years of his professional life have been spent in Cedar City .since his return in September 19G(i. The attorney was born in Pioclie. Nev. and attended the Branch Agricultural College in Cedar City where ho served as studentbody president. He served three years as vice-chairman of the Utah State Council on Criminal Judicial Administration and for two years was a member of the committee for drafting Uniform Jury Instruction for the State of Utah. Ronnow has a family of six children. He is an active member mem-ber of the LDS Church and has filled a mission in the Texas-Louisiana Texas-Louisiana Mission field. In announcing his candi- dacy Konnow indicated uiat "we are entering a new era in judicial administration and the public will undoubtedly insist on a speedier handling of cases in the courts that has heretofore prevailed." He is of the view that the traditional notion "that while there are certain specilic statutory stat-utory time delays in handling cases, there is good reason to relieve the time can be materially ma-terially shortened in the ultimate ulti-mate conclusion. Moreover, tlio people are entitled to this type of concern and consideration," consider-ation," he said. He further stated that he believes that the existing condition con-dition which prevails generally general-ly in courts, throughout the state and nation, is due in some part to the failure of lawyers and judges to press for a speedier handling. He states that if he is elected he will come to the bench with a commitment to the' people to do something constructive about this matter of case time lag. Further the candidate indicated indi-cated that he believes the young people have a dream for an America "that may be more modern and realistic than that of tho older generation. gener-ation. But I am also on the side of the law and believe that the changes sought by our young people can more properly be effected within the confines of the judicial and legislative processes rather rath-er than in the streets." |
