Show Blood program chairman urges support of bloodmohile visit Tuesday, July 2! Mrs. L. V. Broadbent, Iron Jounty Blood Program chairman chair-man for the Red Cross, announced an-nounced a Cedar City blood drawing at the Elk's Lodge for July 21, from 3:00 p.m. to .':00 p.m. She said the bloo.l procurement chairman for lis drawing will be Earl A. fanson and she has urge d ...;d Cross board members j actively support efforts i -cct&e lite nUifl ber of Iron ounty blood donors to match the supply of blood required at the Valley View Medical Center. Hanson said the critical need for increasing the number num-ber of donors in Iron County is apparent from the fact that the Valley View Medical Center Cent-er requires well over 400 pints each year and an additional number must be transferred from the Intermountain Regional Re-gional Blood Center each year for Iron County residents requiring re-quiring blood at hospitals outside this area. At the Fob-: Fob-: ruary blood drawing only 119 ' pints were collected between Cedar City, SUSC and Parowan. Paro-wan. The blood drawing schedule for July 21st is the only remaining blood drawing draw-ing in the county for this year. When Orrin Beck.strand, di- . rector of the Intermountain ' I Regional Blood Center, talked 1 at the annual meeting of the Iron County Chapter in May I he stated that nationally only 3',i of the people within the eligible age group are blood donors. This means that an extremely small number of people are making it possible for our hospitals to meet the increasing requirements for blood and its derivatives. Hanson said that likely the , Iron County donors do not exceed ex-ceed (he 3rr national figure and that if the number of donors don-ors would be increased to a-bout a-bout 6'vj every drawing at Cedar Ce-dar City would easily exceed its quota. With this objective in mind the local chapter intends in-tends to contact more people than ever before to describe the critical need and to explain ex-plain what a simple matter it is to give a pint of blood for such a useful purpose. Donors who have not yet been contacted are asked to call Mrs. Lambeth at 586-9491 ' o make an appointment for the most convenient hour for the drawing July 21st. Only about one hour is required for the processing of a donor at the blood bank. |
