Show ROLLO-glyphks KLIEN ROLLO faith that technology can and will meet tho problem; however, how-ever, the technology will becau.se of jues.siiiv by c!i-.enu'd c!i-.enu'd peoph to stop present da ringing t-nvi room cut a 1 practices. The lan;or in your ments is to infer that technol. gy will b( able to snvo us without much effort on the part ef everyone this gives a false sense of security. After all, it was unbriclleel technology technol-ogy that brought about many of our present problems. Our true value's will bo reflected in the way that we use our technology. We must make sure' that it improves the I quality of our lives and In- I sures our eventual survival. It 1 will require a great deal of i-t- 1 fort on the part of everyone. 1 I 1 As many of you know Gov- ' ornor and .Mrs. Calvin Ramp- ? ton have just returned from a 1 trip to Japan. It was therefore rjuile humorous during the ! dedication ceremony here in j Cedar City Friday when State I Koad Commission Chairman i Clem Church welcomed Utah's first couple "to Utah." Clem hurriedly added, "I mean to ' southern Utah." Kither way the phrase was somewhat fitting. Old articles, clippings, etc. are sometime extremely Inter, esting and one such item was recently noted in a publication publica-tion from one of our national affiliates that I'd like to pass on to you. It's entitled "How to Cook a Husband," and is reportedly taken from an old cookbook compiled by the ladles grou) of a Baptist Church of Wol-coll, Wol-coll, Indiana. Ilere it is: "A croat many husbands arc entirely .spoiled by mismanagement misman-agement in cooking, and so are not tender and good. Sonic women keep them too con itantly in hot water, others freeze them; others put them in a stew, others roast them, others keep them constantly in a pickle. It cannot bo supposed any husband will be good and ten- I W managed th'.s way. But I they are ileliidous w'li-n pro ieily treated. Don't keep him in the kettle by force, as he will stay there himself if proper care is taken. If ho should sputter or fi. don't be anxious, some husbands do this. Add a little sugar in what confectioners call "kisses," but no vinegar or pepper on any account. A little lit-tle spice improves him, but it must be used with judgement. Do not try him with something sharp to see if he is becoming tender. Stir him gently the while lest ho bo too long in the kettle and become fat and tasteless. If you follow these directions direc-tions you will find him very ligestable, agreeing- nicely with you, and ho will keep as long as you want." I'm not sure how well hir recipe will work today in the age of power-driven can openers, op-eners, outdoor electric grills and kitchen cooking implo-I implo-I ments with control panels of uch complexity as to tax the ability of a master engineer. There are some elements in he "cooking" methods which 'iggest that the modern wife of today isn't too far removed from her maxi-skirted grand-lother grand-lother of yesterday. I received a response this week to my comments regarding regard-ing the environment last week and I'd like to pass it on to our readers. Here it is: I Responsible environmental-1 ists arc not advocating putting j a lid on progress, per so. They i are advocating progress to a higher quality of life, one in i which noise, water, air and other pollutions do not as- sault our senses or threaten J our survival. I share your |
