THE AMERICAN LEGION the american legion of san juan county have shown a very commendable spirit in their civil service activities they have taken over the fire protection of both blanding and monticello and are preparing to organize a volunteer fire company this has long been needed in both towns they should receive the support of all for there is no telling when you will want to call upon them to save your home or perhaps your very life an able active efficient fire department volunteer or otherwise with adequate equipment is needed in every comi community 11 unity perhaps they will not have a call a year and we hope they do not but it is like a doctor when you want them you want them badly and quickly we do not know about blanding but we do know that the equipment in monticello is in very poor condition and that the village lacks adequate fire hydrants money spent for such protection is a good investment by any town we recommend it to the attention of the town board we believe they should act on it it does not pay to wait until we have a disastrous fire and then lament because it was not done before 0
