Show WHERE ROADS ARE GOOD. Our city and county commissioners should investigate the condition of the roads south of Provo in Utah. Juab and Sanpete counties. For miles, the main line of travel is in better condition than are parts of the paved streets of Ogden. t An automobile can travel 35 miles an hour on much of the highway without danger. Evidently the construction n not expensive as it is a dirt road. The secret seems to be in drainage and the care with which repairs are made as soon as the road shows si I f breaking up. The failure to make repairs- when defects appear, is, in our opinion, one reason why this part of Utah has so many miles of poor roads. We have seen concrete roads so neglected that deep holes have formed, with the surfacing worn off, without a hand lifted to stay the disintegrating disin-tegrating power of traffic. In parts of Utah long stretches of highway are built and then for years no one is concerned whether holes form or a single mile of the construction is fit to travel over. If we are to have goods roads, the f highways must be regularly inspected and kept up with the same 1 watchfulness that a home owner gives to his dwelling when time brings evidence of wear and tear. |
