Show Recalls a Tragedy Which Occurred On July 19 Last Editor Standard: Joseph M. Folk-man, Folk-man, whoso tragic death occurred July 19, 1919, at Harrisville. Weber county, Utah, a brief account of which appeared ap-peared in tho press nt the time, was born at Plain City. Utah, October 18, 1869. His parents, both of whom are deceased, were Jens Peter and Treanrt Folkman Joseph M. was an excellent type of the sturdy Danish people. His parents par-ents were emigrants from that land in the early setUement of Utah. He was large of stature and had a bright mind His schooling extended little further than the district school, but he possessed pos-sessed a good memory' and an intense desire for knowledge, not only of his vocation, that of a farmer, which be had successfully followed, but of tho problems of the day he remained an eager student. February 15, 1893, he married Nellie, Nel-lie, the eldest daughter of William L and Sarah Jane Stewart, leaving for mission in New Zealand a few clays later. He labored with splendid success suc-cess in that land until October, 18C9. Several months during the fall and winter of 1897 and 1898 he labored s a special missionarv in the M. I. A In tho spring of 1S9S they moved to Warren, Weber county, where thev have since resided. For a number of years he was one of the presidents of the 87th Quorum of Seventies. For eight years he had served as counsellor to William T. Waynient in the Warren ward. Joseph M Folkman was a splendid public speaker ,'md a devout Latter-dav Latter-dav Saint He had been R pillar of strength in the ward. Though laboring labor-ing in fhe bishopric, he retained unflagging un-flagging interest in the Mutual and Sunday school work, where his support sup-port will be greatly missed. In every enterprise for the building up of the community, Mr. Folkman has been an enthusiastic supporter. His son, Leo. who met his death in the same accident, was born at Plain City, Weber county, Utah, September 18, 1897. He enlisted in the service of his country in October, 1918, but was called to the training school ..t Logan, Utah, till December of the same year when he was mustered out to return home. He was a big heart - d, oung man and exhibited many oi the traits of his father. Joseph M. Folkman leaves his wife and eight children, six boya and two girls. Tho eldest child "is twenty , ears of age. The youngest girl was very seriously injured when the father fath-er and .-on was killed, but is rapldlv recovering.
