Show Gun and Rod Club Sponsors Contest With the opening of the fishing fish-ing season Saturday the Parowan Paro-wan Gun and Rod Club Is completing com-pleting plans for Its annual big fish contest, according to Vern Mortensen, chairman of the committee com-mittee in charge of the contest. His committee, with the club's big game committee, headed by Fred Dalton, have enlisted the cooperation of the city's business houses in furnishing substantial substan-tial merchandise prizes for the winners in the contest. Six monthly prizes will be given away during the fishing season, with the club to award the final prize of $15 cash to the person catching the biggest fish during the entire season. Other prizes pledged will be held to be given out at the close of the deer hunting season in the fall. Those eligible to enter fish catches for the monthly and grand prizes are club members of record on June 1 of this year, and the area in which fish may be caught for entry in the contest is the five county area around Parowan. Iron, Washington, Beaver, Bea-ver, Garfield and Kane counties. The fish are to be weighed in at the Parowan Mercantile Co. with a prize valued at approximately approxi-mately $5.00 In merchandise to go to each monthly winner. Members of Mortensen's committee com-mittee are Scott L. Orton, Bryce Adams and Woodrow Decker. Jack Dalton is working with Fred Dalton in the deer hunting contest, con-test, we understand. In connection with the opening open-ing of the fishing season on Saturday, Sat-urday, it is reported that while Panguitch Lake will be the most popular fishing spot, some waters wa-ters closer to home should be good also. Both the Yankee and Paragonah Paragon-ah Reservoirs are filled with water wa-ter this year and have been stocked with legal size fish this spring. Three loads of fish have been placed in the Paragonah reservoir and four loads in the Yankee. The Yankee was stocked quite heavily last year and there was a good carryover. , Parowan canyon streams have not been stocked as yet but the water is clearing up and will be ready to receive fish at any time I now, but whether this will be j done before the opening day isn't is-n't known. I According to this year's ang- ling regulations as set forth in the annual proclamation issued I recently, only boats without motors mo-tors may be used for fishing at both the Yankee and Paragonah Reservoirs this year. Fishermen using boats for fishing on these waters will have to propel them with oars according to a stipulation stipu-lation in the annual proclamation. |
