"We went through stations, which consist of various drills such as jumping, dribbling dribbl-ing and other basic skills. We have a bunch of kids with good attitudes. We have only five seniors, 17 juniors and 26 sophomores trying out," stated Uintah head basketball coach, Pete Rencher. Rencher was the coach at Vernal Junior High for the past two seasons. The Utes have one returning letter-man, letter-man, Gary Galley, 6'1" forward. However, Galley is coming off knee surgery. Mike Johnson, 6'3" forward and Dave Allen, 6'2" forward, were members of the 1979 Uintah team, but they mainly competed on the junior varsity team and saw little action on the varsity team. Allen is recovering from broken ribs. Allen is a senior and Galley and Johnson are juniors. Devin Wright, 6'1" junior guard-forward, was also listed on the Uintah varsity roster in 1979, but didn't see much action. Roger Walker competed on the 1979 Uintah junior varsity team. The Uintah Utes will open the season on the road in Roosevelt against the - Union Cougars on Wednesday, November 26. The Utes' first home game will be against Lehi Pioneers, Friday, November 28. The Uintah crew will battle Bountiful on the road, November 29. Uintah will host the Basin Tournament, Tourna-ment, December 5 and 6. Union, Uintah, Uin-tah, Altamont and Duchesne will compete com-pete in the tournament. The Utes will compete in the Box Elder Tournament, December 11-13 and will battle Grand Junction in an away game, December 18. The Utes will host Rangely, December 19. The Utes' first league game will be against Cyprus in Vernal at Vernal Junior High on January 9. The game will be played at Vernal Junior High because the Vernal Tournament of Champions is also set for that day at Uintah High School. Other games scheduled are: Uintah at Judge Memorial, January 16; Uintah at Murray, January 23; Tooele at Uintah. Uin-tah. January 30: Jordan at Uintah. February 3; Uintah at Cyprus, February' 6; Judge Memorial at Uintah, 'February 10; Murray at Uintah, February 13; Uintah at Tooele, February 17 and Uintah at Jordan, February 20.
