Show Pheasant hunt is rated successful As estimated 90,000 hunters took part in the opening day of the pheasant hunt Saturday in Utah and the hunt was rated as successful in the Uintah Basin area by Clair Davis, information officer of-ficer of the Northeastern Region of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. "The hunt was a little slower than last year, but the hunter success was still high. There was a lot of shooting and there is an excellent ratio of roosters to hens. A lot of people reported taking shots at pheasants and quite a few hunters acquired limits on the opening day," remarked Davis. The hunters were scattered throughout the valley. "Pelican Lake - received light hunting pressure, but the pressure in the rest of the valley was about average," said Davis. Hunters, who got limits, got them early in the day. After the first hour of the hunt, the birds start to head for the deep cover or sagebrush where it takes a good'pheasant dog or an organized drive to flush them out. The pheasant and quail hunt in Uintah and Dushesne counties will end on Friday, Nov. 14. The hunt in Daggett County will end on Sunday, Nov. 9. The daily bag limit is two roosters and the possession limit is four. All state and federal lands in Box Elder, Carbon, Davis, Duchesne, Emery, Grand, Juab, Tooele, Uintah, and Weber counties , which are subject to restrictions imposed by administering ad-ministering agencies, will be open for pheasant hunting until Nov. 30. The cottontail rabbit and snowshoe hare hunt will end on Jan. 31, 1981. The forest grouse hunt will end on Nov. 30. |
