Show ARGENTINE ANT IS DECLARED MENACE Invasion by the Argentine ant is the subject of a letter received by Governor Gov-ernor Bamberger from W. M. Hitter, manager of the agricultural bureau of the New Orleans Association of Commerce. Mr. Ritter asserts that the South American Ameri-can a.nt promises to be a greater menace to crops than the boil weevil and asks that concentrated efforts to made throughout the country to eradicate the insect before it has gained too strong a foothold. Truck farm products, fruit, grain and the kitchen are the fields chosen by the Latin cousin of the little red ant. On its first appearance In this country several years ago steps were taken by the government to retard its spread, Mr. Rit- ler says, put later precautions were overlooked over-looked and in a short time most of the southern states of the country had become be-come infested with the pest. |
