The Mormon Battalion monument committee is continuing the organization organiza-tion of county committees for the projected pro-jected campaign for funds. Washington county has just been organized with the following members: Charles G. Y. Hig-gins Hig-gins of- St. George; W. G. Miles of St. George; Charles Petty of Hurricane, Mrs. W. E. Pike of St. George, George Walter Batty of Toquerville, O. D. Gif-ford Gif-ford of Springdale, Anthon H. Ivins of Enterprise, and Mrs. Calvin Hall of Washington. The organization of county coun-ty committees will be completed at a meeting to be held in Chairman B. H. Roberts ' office, SOS Church Office building, from 2 to 5 p. m. next Saturday. Sat-urday. Pamphlets outlining the work also 'will be distributed to out-of-town committees. At a meeting of the general committee commit-tee held yesterday it was announced that the campaign circular was ready for distribution. The eight-page folder contains a brief statement of the action of the stato legislature in granting $100,000 for the proposed monument when a like amount is raised by subscription; sub-scription; a resume of the historical data of the Mormon battalion, a description de-scription and picture of the model of the monument, and a poem. The text book written 'by Mr. Roberts Rob-erts untitled "History of the Mormon (Battalion," is completed and .has been submitted to the state superintendent of public instruction, who will place the book before the textbook commission commis-sion with a view to introducing it in schools. |
