Show CULTIVATION OF UTAH DRY FARMS Best methods of taking care of dry farms so that the land will receive the most possible moisture arc ox-plained ox-plained in a bulletin for farmers prepared pre-pared by A. H. Thlcssen. section director di-rector of the United States weather bureau. The bulletin was put on the press yesterday and will be ready for distribution In a few days. The bulletin gives statistics of dry farm in Utah from September 1, 1912, to March 31, 1914. In the bulctln, Mr. Thicssen advocates and explains the advantages of farmers letting their dry farms lie fallow for a year in order that crops may receive the advantage of the rains and snows of two winters and a summer. In discussing dis-cussing the bulctin Mr. Thiessen said yesterday: i "This report will be of especial Interest In-terest to dry farmers, as it deals with the excellent dry farm practice of allowing farms to He fallow for a year before planting. By plowing and then properly harrowing and dust mulching the ground the moisture is conserved for two winters and a summer, and when the crops are planted they have the advantage of all this precipitation." The bulletin will be sent to all the weather bureau cooperative stations in the state and to commercial organizations or-ganizations where farmers can readily read-ily secure copies. They will also be sent to any person who makes application appli-cation for them. |
