Show 5 MAYOR'S PROCLAMATION ON 1 CLEAN-UP WEEK. NexC, week is clean-up days, when every one In Ogdcn will be expected to do some one thing to make this city more attractive, more beautiful. To promote the good work, Mayor A. G. Fell has issued the following proclamation: proc-lamation: "To the Citizens of Ogden: Tho ladies la-dies ok tho Child Culture Club, the Civic League and various other organizations or-ganizations have given a good deal of their valuable time In. the interest of sanitation, and have been a live factor in urging and convincing the general public of the necessity ol greater activity in this very important matter. "The slogan 'swat the fly' is good so far as it goes, but we should go to the fountain-head at once and 'swat the condition that makes it possible for the fly to flourish.' This condition condi-tion will be found in some front yards, I in many back yards, and generally I throughout the city. "Our enterprising and energetic citizens citi-zens are called upon and urged to put forth iheir best efforts on the days set apart for 'clean-up days,' viz: April 13, 14 and 15, and show their I keen sense of appreciation of tho good work already done by the various woman's clubs and at the same time set a standard that will appeal to the lovers of all things that go to make a bigger, better and a more beautiful city in all respects." We like the mayor's suggestion that the way to swat the fly is to swat the conditions that make flies possible. If all the refuse of homes and outhouses was carted away or chemically treated, Ogden would have fewer files, to pollute food and convey con-vey disease. Furthermore, we endorse the city's nollcy of sending wagons over the residential district to carry away the winter's accumulation of rubbish. I With front and hack yards freed from i all unsightly objects, Ogden will be made most presentable. .,..-, ' nn |
