Show COOKS WAITERS APPEAL TO IIS Salt Lake, April 10. "The reply of the hotel men to our propositions Is just a slap In the faco to organized labor In Salt Lake City and wo arc going to put the matter up to the Salt Lake Federation of Labor for advlco," said Joseph Ward, secretary of the Cooks and Walters' union, last night In commenting upon the resolution resolu-tion passed Monday by the Salt Lake Hotel nnd Restaurant Men's nssocla tioin "They talk about our proposed wage scale being high," said Secretary Ward. "It is a fact that tho wages wc ask are less than aro paid to cooka and waiters in any of tho coast cities, where the charge for meals i3 less than any place in Salt Lake. Thoy pay good wages here now. It Is merely a slap at organized labor and we will not lake any action until wc consult the federation ou the matter mat-ter " The letter which tho hotel and restaurant men sent to the Uooks and Waiters' union declared that thoy are "unalterably opposed to recognition recogni-tion of the union and have no disposition dispo-sition to take under advisement any proposition emanating from tho Cooks' and Walters' union that might tend toward the disturbance of business conditions and relations." The resolution reso-lution in full reads as follows: "Whereas, A committee nppoinled by the Salt Lake Hotel and Restaurant Restaur-ant Men's association had conferrod with tho representatives of tho Cooks and Walters' union upon their solicitation, solici-tation, and, "Whereas, Tho committee from the Cooks' and Walters' union had made certain representations absolutely at variance with the purpose of the mooting and not consistent with the attitude now assumed and herenftor to be assumed by the Salt Lake Ho tel and Restaurant Men's association by reason of the fact that recognition' of tho union and the adoption of the union schedule would require an immediate im-mediate increase In commodities scrv , od and would entail a hardship upon many patrons; therefore, be It "Resolved, That It is the sense of the members of the Salt Lake Hotel and Restaurant Men's association in regular meeting assembled that they are irrevocably opposed to the recog' nltion of the union, and have no disposition dis-position to take under advisement any proposition emanating from the CookB' and 'Walters' union that might tend toward the disturbance of busi ness conditions and relations; and, be it further "Resolved, That the secretary be and hereby is directed to forward communication to tho Cooks' and Walters' union notifying them of this action." |
