Miss Helen Cudahy, daughter of Patrick Cudahy, the millionaire Chicago packer king, who gave up a life of ease and luxury to become a nurse at the Massachusetts Massachu-setts General hospital, has been swamped by proposals of marriage from admirers in all parts of the country. Miss Cudahy is in the second week of her probationary period as a nurse, and her one ambition is to qualify. She has been greatly hampered In her work by tho persistency of the fortune for-tune hunters who are" seeking her hand in marriage. Every mail briuss scores of letters from men of all ages, each vowing undying devotion to tho charming-heiress charming-heiress if she will marry him. The other probationers are getting much amusement out of the situation which Miss Cudahy finds exasperating. The letters bear all sorts of addresses, ad-dresses, and some of the handwriting Is barely legible. The young- womau has refused to let her head be turned by the increasing attentions of would-be would-be admirers. She is determined to make good in the life she has chosen and has put all thoughts of love second sec-ond to her profession. Practically all of the letters are of I the same, tenor. Some of the writers praise her for banishing the life of a , social butterfly to minister to the I sick; others rave over her beauty, and a few just a few for her money. They all lead to the same point matrimony. One of her friends said today: "If Helen marries at al!, it won't bo one of those silly idiots who are throwing themselves at her head behind be-hind a postage stamp. She knows the kind too well to ever take them seriously. seri-ously. It is not her they arc seeking, It's her money." |
