Downard said he has implemented some of the ideas suggested by a community com-munity panel of local citizens during a public meeting last month. One policy change resulting from the public meeting is not rtuinng the date of birth of everyone who files a report with the polio department "Other changes suggested in the panel discussion will be made."' A ! t ARRESTS AS THIS ONE and reported crimes are increasing in Vernal City, according to recent figures released by the Vernal City Police Department. Officials blame the sagging economy for much of the crime increase. Crime . . . Continued from page 1 Although juvenile arrests increased from 129 in 1981 to 481 in 1982 the increase is proportionate to the increases in adult crime, 237 in 1981 to 811 in 1982. Despite the increase in crime, the department has maintained the same number of officers, 21, as in 1981, only now they are more experienced. Over 90 percent of the sworn officers are academy graduates compared to 80 percent in 1981. As of March 11 this year 100 percent of the officers will have graduated from the academy. "That is the first time we've had 100 percent in six years," Sgt. Parker said. |
