Show Hard times Dear Editor: ' Economic hard times have surely hit Uintah Basin, with more people than ever before being laidoff their jobs. Few people can imagine the problems and feelings of the long term unemployed as well as someone who has been out of a job for 3 months to a year and longer. My husband and I have both been out of jobs for 7 months now. For the first 2 months we had no income at all, then we got unemployment insurance. We know what it is to have to face a world with inflated prices, having to make ends meet for our family of 3'2 on $166 a week knowing that someday even that $166 won't be there, and we may not have a precious job then - either. Many people in our valley are now for the first time facing these same feelings and fears. It has been my experience that there is strength in numbers, or in other words, when people ban together to combat a common problem, they all become stronger. The problem I'm talking about here is the loneliness, fear, and despair of not having a gainful job. Everyone has to somehow cope with life's problems and when financial limitations and ego loss are added on top, problems seem to become much larger, and more difficult to solve. I feel that one way to help us all is to share solutions, maybe one of my everyday problem solutions might work for someone else also. And maybe their solution to another problem might help me in our time of need. I would like to hear from anyone, man or woman, who is out of a job and would like to find out how people in their circumstances cir-cumstances are coping. Call Clara or Jim at 789-5417. Thank You, CLARA DAVIS |
