Show f Marilyn Rich Local Junior Miss competes at state Marilyn Rich, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Burnell Rich, is participating in the State Junior Miss Pageant held Tuesday through Saturday, March 1-5. Miss Rich was the winner of the Vernal Ver-nal Junior Miss Pageant sponsored by KVEL Radio Jan. 15. The pageant competition will be conducted con-ducted at Kingsbury Hall on the University Univer-sity of Utah campus with the preliminary round Friday night and the final round Saturday. Throughout the week girls from all over the state compete in the event. They will be judged in the same areas as they were in the local pageant: scholastic achievement, judges' interview, physical fitness, poise and appearance and creative and performing arts. They will also meet with Governor Matheson and have lunch with his wife. To get ready for the pageant. Miss Rich had some requirements to fulfill. She made an outfit for Simplicity, created different hairstyles for Revlon, planned a party and prepared a dinner including the invitations and took pictures of the party and prepared a talent. Marilyn's talent will be a piano solo. Awards will be given in the various areas of competition throughout the week. Another Uintah Basin resident, Lee Ann Allred of Whiterocks. will also compete com-pete in the pageant. She is a senior at Union High School and will be Roosevelt's Junior Miss. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Allred. Saturday evening the new State Junior Miss will be announced who will then participate in the National Junior Miss Pageant. The reigning state Junior Miss, Sharlene Wells of Salt Lake City, will pass the title on to the new state winner. National sponsors of the Junior Miss Scholarship Pageants are Kraft, Simplicity, Coca-Cola and Revlon. |
