Vernal Racing Assn. has agreed tu give Uintah County the amount of land it needs to build the fairgrounds at the new site. According to County Commissioners Snow and Merrill, the Vernal City facilities would be torn down and a new race track, grand stand and barns w ould be built at the Steinaker area site. A water line would be built over the hill to the east from the Simper sawmill and a permanent residence would be constructed con-structed for security. The commissioners plan to visit fairgrounds and roping areas in Rifle and Craig. Colo, and Rock Springs, Wyo., to get ideas and input from other communities com-munities concerning this kind of facility. A proposed location for the new road maintenance shop is near the county asphalt pit on Asphalt Ridge. This would be a more practical location for storage and maintenance of the county's equipment equip-ment since this is the area w here it is used us-ed most, reasoned the commissioners. It is the thinking of the two commissioners commis-sioners that if the present fairgrounds property was zoned for commercial or light industrial use it could be sold for the most money. The county is starting a search for a business or industry that might be interested in moving into such an area as the fairgrounds property. |
