Show of DEAN DONE UP The Jury Finds Him Guilty V1I lard L Snow Pleads Guilty After the closing of our court report yesterday afternoon which left the jury in the Dean case still consulting I upon the merits of tile evidence the case of Willard L Snow was called and the defendant and all the witnesses were found to be present When the indictment was read Snow tried to wedge in a plea of guilty with a modification to the effect that he was only so according to the Edmunds law 71 but the Court insisted upon a direct answer an-swer to the plea and Snow was finally obliged to drop the pet phrase of the Saints though there is no doubt that he had the satisfaction of saying it over to himself He asked that he be given a week or two to prepare for sentence and the Court fixed October 2d as the date At this point Mr Hurd announced that thejury in the Dean case had agreed and was ready to report Deans name was called and after considerable of a wait the verdict was read in his absence The verdict was one of guilty as charged in the indictment The Court set Monday next as the time for sentence and then adjourned until this morning Dean is a defiant young Saint of the Rudger Clawson stamp who went into polygamy in the very face of the stringent laws and it is therefore not likely that he will have much sympathy either from the Gentiles or from the younger and more sensible of the Saints |
