Show Important Treasury Decision WASHINGTON Sept 25The AngloCali fornia Bank Limited recently protested to the leas Department against the action of the Collector of Customs at San Francisco Fran-cisco in refusing to permit entrees of imported im-ported merchandise consigned to the bank by bills of lading on the ground that the bankers were a foreign corporation The question was referred to the Solicitor of the Treasury who has given a opinion that the bank which gve incorporated in London and carries on its business in th I country through two agents or management manage-ment cannot under the existing statute be allowed to make the entrees in question in as much as the consignee would be a nonresident non-resident foreign corporation with none of its corporate officers residing i the United States and therefore incapable of com plying with the laws and regulations of import entrees The solicitor further advises that in the case of future consign ments of goods to said bank the only course to pursue 1 to treat the goods as unwelcome and to send them into the general order store Acting Secretary Fairchild has instructed in-structed the Collector to be governed by the views of the Solicitor iI i I |
