Show I DOUBLY OFFENSIVE District Attorney Dickson must have felt considerably humiliated at the remarks re-marks of a morning paper concerning a little tongue tilt between himself and a member of the bar who was acting as opposing counsel in a case in the District Court yesterday Mr Dickson is an able lawyer a ready debater quick and sharp at retort and amply able to take care of himself in matter of that kind and the officious appropriation ap-propriation of his cudgels by the editor of the morning paper must have been anything but gratifying to him The remarks re-marks concerning Mr Rawl ings while probably not as annoying to that gentleman gentle-man were in equally bad taste besides being devoid of truth No one who I knows Mr Rawlings doubts for a moment mo-ment his sincerity or his fidelity to to the loyal cause and any attempt to asperse as-perse his character in that respect will be certain to reflect more severely upon the defamer than the defamed Although born and reared in Mormonism the young man when he arrived at a reasoning rea-soning age had the intellect and courage to discern its evils and to sever his connection con-nection with them For this he is entitled enti-tled to more credit than those who occupy a like present position without first having to overcome the effect of such early teachings and associations As a I lawyer itis his duty to advocate the cause of his client to the best of his ability and I the fact of his being professionally employed i em-ployed to defend a polygamist is no reason why 110 should be slurred because of his Mormon parentage or accused of lack of fidelity to the principles which he has so often advocated with such telling force and effect |
